Why Labrador cars have usually been there a while

Labrador is one of the older parts of the northern Gold Coast, and its housing shows it: post-war cottages and brick-and-tile from the 1960s and 70s along the streets running back from Marine Parade, with unit blocks and newer infill closer to Brisbane Road and Harbour Town. It has stayed more affordable than the beachfront suburbs south of it, which means a lot of long-term owners rather than short-term renters.

That changes what turns up. Where a Surfers pickup is often a car someone owned for six months, a Labrador car has frequently been in the same driveway since it was new. It is complete, it has service history somewhere in a drawer, and it stopped being driven at a specific point — a licence surrendered, a move into care, a family member who died. Completeness is the single biggest factor in what a dismantler pays, so these cars are frequently worth more than their owners assume from the dust on them.

The other consequence is paperwork. A disproportionate share of our Labrador work is estate and downsizing vehicles, where the registered owner is not the person arranging the sale. That is entirely workable, but it needs the right documents in hand before a truck is booked rather than discovered at the kerb.

How selling your car works

  1. Tell us about the car

Call us or fill in the form. We need the make, model, year, rough condition and where it's parked. That's enough for a firm number — usually in about a minute.

  2. We confirm and book a time

If you're happy with the quote we lock in a pickup. We come to you: home, work, a carpark, the side of the road. Same day is often possible.

  3. Paperwork, cash, gone

We check ID and registration, you sign the transfer, we pay you on the spot and tow the car away free. The price we quoted is the price you get.

Questions we get about Labrador

The car belonged to a relative who has died. Can I sell it?
Yes, with the right documentation — normally the death certificate plus evidence you are the executor or administrator, along with your own photo ID. Requirements vary with how the estate is structured. Ring us before booking a collection and we will tell you exactly what to have ready.
It hasn't been driven in eight years. Is it worth anything?
Almost certainly. Time off the road affects tyres, fluids and the battery, none of which drive the value much. What matters is whether the engine, transmission, panels and catalytic converter are still on it. A complete car that has sat is worth considerably more than a running car that has been stripped.
Do you collect from the older streets near the Broadwater?
Yes. The residential grid running back from Marine Parade is straightforward for a tilt tray — narrower than the newer estates, but with room to work. If your car is on a tight corner block or boxed in behind another vehicle, mention it when you book so we bring skates.
Can you take a car that is registered to someone else?
Not as it stands. If a previous owner never completed the transfer, the registration record still points at them and there is nothing for you to sign. It is usually fixable, but it has to be sorted before collection day rather than at the roadside.
